    Article Summary

HYCU offers immutable backups that can integrate with Backblaze B2 Cloud Storage. Enabled Backblaze B2 Object storage, ensures 100% data immutability until its expiration time.

    Enable Backblaze B2

Before you begin: You must have a Backblaze B2 Cloud Storage account. You can sign up here. If you already have a Backblaze account and the left navigation menu contains a B2 Cloud Storage section, your account is already enabled for Backblaze B2.

    1. Sign in to your Backblaze account.
    2. In the left navigation menu under Account, click My Settings.
    3. Under Enabled Products, select the checkbox to enable B2 Cloud Storage.
    4. Review the Terms and Conditions, and click OK to accept them.

    Create a Bucket

Backblaze recommends that you set this bucket to Private and that you enable Object Lock. HYCU automatically detects whether public access is enabled, and a warning message is returned to adjust the security settings to restrict access to data.

    1. Sign in to your Backblaze account.
    2. In the left navigation menu under B2 Cloud Storage, click Buckets.
    3. Click Create a Bucket.
    4. Enter a name for your bucket.
Bucket names must be at least six characters and globally unique. A message is displayed if your bucket name is already in use.
    5. Select a privacy setting: Private or Public.
Files that are in a private bucket require authentication to perform an action, for example, downloading. Public buckets do not require authentication so you can easily share files. You can change a bucket's privacy settings at any time.
    6. If applicable, enable a Backblaze B2 server-side encryption key.
    7. Enable Object Lock to restrict a file from being modified or deleted for a specified period of time.
    8. Click Create a Bucket, and copy the value that is in the Endpoint field; you may need this value for other processes.
    9. Click Lifecycle Settings to control how long to keep the files in your new bucket.
    Note
Copy the S3 endpoint that is displayed for use in another step.

    Create an Application Key

Application keys control access to your Backblaze B2 Cloud Storage account and the buckets that are contained in your account.

    1. Sign in to your Backblaze account.
    2. In the left navigation menu under Account, click Application Keys.
    3. Click Add a New Application Key, and enter an app key name.
You cannot search an app key by this name; therefore, app key names are not required to be globally unique.
    4. In the Allow Access to Bucket(s) dropdown menu, select All or a specific bucket.
    5. Select your access type (for example, Read and Write).
    6. Select the optional Allow List All Bucket Names checkbox (required for the Backblaze B2 S3-compatible API List Buckets operation).
    7. Click Create New Key, and note the resulting keyID and applicationKey values.
    Note
When you create a new app key, the response contains the actual key string, for example N2Zug0evLcHDlh_L0Z0AJhiGGdY. You can always find the keyID on this page, but for security, the applicationKey appears only once. Make sure you copy and securely save this value elsewhere.

Configure a Backblaze B2 Target in HYCU

To integrate HYCU with Backblaze B2, you must set your Backblaze bucket as a target.

Before you begin: You must have the HYCU paid tier enabled and HYCU credentials.

    1. Sign in to HYCU.
    2. Select(Targets) in the left menu.
    3. In the top menu, click Add and configure the target details.
      1. Enter the name of the target and, optionally, a description.
      2. In the Concurrent Backups field, enter the maximum number of concurrent backups.
If the backup throughput allows, you can set more backup jobs to run concurrently to reduce the duration of backups and the amount of queued backup jobs.
      3. Select Use for Archiving if you want to reserve this target for data archives.
You cannot use the target that you use for archiving data for backing up data or storing copies of backup data.
      4. Select Enable Compression to enable HYCU to compress backup data before it stores the data to the target.
You can use compression for backup data, copies of backup data, and data archives. Compression may cause degradation of HYCU performance if you use it with targets that are reserved for data archives. It may also increase system requirements for the HYCU backup controller. For more information, see HYCU's product documentation.
      5. Click Next.
    4. Enter your Backblaze B2 credentials.
      1. In the Type menu, select AWS S3/Compatible.
      2. In the Size field, enter the maximum storage space that should be reserved for the backup files.
      3. In the Service Endpoint field, enter the S3 Endpoint that you copied when you created your bucket, for example, s3.us-west-004.backblazeb2.com.
      4. Enter the name of your bucket.
      5. Enter your Backblaze keyID in the Access Key ID field.
      6. Enter your Backblaze applicationKey in the Secret Access Key field.
      7. Select Path style access to enable HYCU to use a path-style URL to access the bucket.
      8. Select Target encryption to encrypt the data that is stored on this target.
      9. Select Metered target to enable HYCU to obtain the data from other locations first to avoid additional charges.
Enable this option only if charges for reading data from the target apply.
      10. Click Save.
