By reading these stories makes me wondering if someday I would be capable to work for Backblaze.

Congratulations, guys!

Almost certainly a mix of MMF and SMF, with some AOC/DAC where it makes sense as well. The price delta between 10Gbase-SR and 10Gbase-LR optics is tiny these days, but on the other side of the breakout the 40Gbase-SR4 optics are far cheaper.

I’ll let Yev know that the next time we give away some storage pod chassis’s we should do it in the Caribbean. I’m sure he’ll be all for it.

Live in the Caribbean but want some (Please!!) !!!!

Version 5 has 45 drives and version 6 have 60 drives. So not compatible in a Backblaze Vault. When Version 7 comes along, it looks to have 60 drives, and could be mixed with V6 pods, but we generally don’t do that given the different performance characteristics of the two versions.

I.e a 7.0 pod, 6.0 pod and 5.0 pod can all be a part of the same vault? Or is each vault solely consist of a single type of pod?
Also are you planning to use a mix of MMF and SMF or just stick with SMF?
Love your blog posts BTW!
