Nick – good suggestion, sorry about the confusion, but you’re correct the percentage change increase is 7%!

At that time CrashPlan had a limit and Backblaze was unlimited, and that was the deciding factor for me. I did miss the ability to run the CrashPlan software to a private external hard drive at a friends house, but Backblaze has been great for me all these years.

However, divorcing support for MacOS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) was almost a crippling blow for me. I absolutely must continue to run at least one system on Snow Leopard, or else switch to Windows (arghh!!).

Found a solution, since I also have a small MacBookAir running High Sierra. Added an external drive to that computer, which could be backed up by Backblaze. I moved the bulk of my files from the Snow Leopard iMac to that drive, which the iMac sees on the local network. Then I installed Backblaze on the MacBookAir, Inherited Backup State, and 3 days later everything is now backup on the Air. Finally, I uninstalled Backblaze from the Snow Leopard iMac.

Happy again!
Now I am wondering if I also should sign up with the plan to back up my Synology NAS…

George that definitely makes sense, we had to start charging VAT and it may have just shown for you upon your most recent renewal. More online taxes and fees are unfortunately likely going to be coming as more countries and states start charging for online goods and services. B2 might be a good option if you don’t have a ton of data – that’s $0.005/GB/Month – though is still subject to VAT.

While I paid $50 for your yearly plan, I now pay $73.20. How come? Your $1 per month totals to extra $12 per year, and you started charging me EU VAT tax that was not there before. So my yearly rate went up by $23.20 or almost 50%!

I love your service, but this was increase so substantial to me that I’ll probably not renew next year, but may switch to your B2 plan or even offline backup. Sorry guys, but I’m not making that much money to be able to afford your generally great service anymore.

So it went from a rate of 5.38% to 5.75% which is absolute change of 0.37% but as a percentage change increase, it is 7%. Seeing as rate is still ~5% saying it increased by 7% could be mis-understood as going to ~12% (incorrectly interpreted). Very confusing. Maybe not use percentage increase next time when units are already in % – talk about how it increased by 0.07 factor maybe. Tricky to communicate, for sure.

I honestly can’t think of a service that has not went up in price in that time. Some companies like logmein will burn you everytime you try to renew ( i dumped them for another great business, Splashtop btw). Keep up the great work.
