I guess that they have different numbers from years to years or..do I need the matching number in order to make sure to get the same level of reliability, for instance the model I can purchase here for 115 chf is : – ST6000DM003

Although for same price I can get 2TB WD Black which got 5 years warranty instead of 2, this sounds more tempting despite having much less space mmh..

As I’m reading this article, I’m thinking to myself. Would it be nice if we can also test the data retention of the SSD drives by keeping some drives that you replace. Please consider this. Thanks.

Availability of host reads and writes does seem to be hit ‘n miss, although I feel much of that is with older SATA SSDs. My m.2 drives (both SATA and NVMe) all seem to report TBW, usage, predicted lifetime, etc.

Ok, thanks. But if you take Lifetime AFR chart, top HGST hard drive (4TB) with 3,209 drives x 62.1 months avg age x 30 days/mth (avg) = 5,978,367 drive days total, yet it shows 13,329,752 drive days. How can you have nearly 3x the drive days than you do number of drives x average age of drives?

We’ll have to see if we can determine TBW (Total Bytes Written), as it does not appear to a SMART stat (at least one I could find). The interplay between TBW, wear leveling and usage is intriguing.
