Thanks for a great article and some very enlightening infographics.
The difference between Toshiba and Seagate failure rates are not that far apart in terms of one clearly out performs the other.

Many of these drives have estimated or published platter/disk counts (see RML527’s HDD platter capacity). You could probably edit them in yourself.

It could be either, but I believe that damage in transit is a much more common problem that manufacturing flaws.

Yes it is indeed strange that two drives was faulty. I have read about other problems with the HGST drives not being recognized by some PC’s with certain RAID controllers onboard even though they are SATA drives and should be compatible.

Can you include platter/disk count column in these sheets? I think that says more about reliability.

But both drives I got could not be recognized by my PC. I sent them in for a refund and since they both had errors I got my refund.

I was quite confused after this experience and wonder whether they was damaged in transit or if it was an fabrication error.

I bought these 12 TB HGST drives:

HGST Ultrastar He12 SATA 4Kn ISE HUH721212ALN600

Do you record or qualify the failure type, failure-state SMART data or anything like that?

That particular model was migrated away from en masse. It was in an older post of theirs.
