I mean do the ones at the front have a higher survival rate than the ones at the back. I am thinking that cooling may contribute to their reliability.

They are purchased from WD/HGST distribution partners. There are several we deal with, it depends on price, quantity, and availability/timing as to which one we would select.

Intel is the top producer for SSDs in terms of reliability
when you have the first bad cell then the drive locks itself and you can only read from it
Western Digital is the same for HDDs
I had many WD drives,yes they fall very fast indeed
50 months is bad bussiness for Backblaze
but you know I used their service …once
the transfer rate was so terrible and slow
that I quickly bought my first backup server at contabo
100x speed
