Arh. Thanks for the reply, I think I need to spend some time reading deeper into the tech.

The read/ write speeds are faster from what i have read on the tests run on the drives. 35 000 TB of data transfer per year i think. 35 PB of data transfer in one year

the problem with MAMR is that it takes a lot longer to influence the bits with microwaves which would decrease write speeds on the disk, and with bombardment of magnetic waves the pin point precision needed to cram data into the disk is much more difficult and more expensive to acquire. besides if there is a large magnetic wave source near your pc. Say a microwave this may affect your disk, since micro waves are highly penetrating and the disc is not 100% electromagnetic wave proof. I do think that this is very unlikely but it has yet to be disproved. apart from any external “threats” to the disk the amount of energy used to create 20 – 40 GHz microwaves is extremely high. this would create a large power consumption rating on the drive.

actually there is no increase in the power consumption. The HAMR hard drives use the same and sometimes even less power than normal drives. this being when they are both idle and running. look into this a bit more and you will defiantly see what it is your looking for.

i agree with you, since in cold storage the magnetic field in a hard drives disc’s are so much stronger there is a 2 -17% data write fail in extreme cold weather. That being -20c and lower.

Sorry but that is an utter flapdoodle, ssd`s are waaay better than hdd`s aspecialy for cold storage.

Its true.

Some of the people commenting herein must be, some of them direct genetic descendants of folks that rode on this train perhaps….now HAMR will start a fire in the data center….what does it cost, how much is it?…and other digital monkeyland questions, merely nonsense…..what does it cost when your friends at a social event have HAMRs and you don’t? You will see these vents unfolding soon….HAMR is merely another step into the future of a world where precious memoires for example, can be easily and affordably stored. Yet engineering wise SO mUCH more

Scenario in 2028….I see you bought a new home….. Yes we did……. What is all those videos running on the walls? How is that happening?? OMG !!!!

Oh, we had the builder work with SEAGATE’s HOME HAMR DIvision and they installed them in our home Cloud Center for life memory preservation. Do you have HAMRs in your home?
Oh…sorry..that’s too bad. What do you do STARE AT THE WALLS. LOL

HAMR is merely the next step for all of us but most readily accepted and utilized by Generation X members to fully digitize their lives. as an example.

.
SEAGATE is doing something to being down the TB cost. What are the naysayers building?

EXACTLY. Bring on the HAMRs….lets see how good they are. E Sports will guarantee HAMRs have a place in the future. We are the beginning of the beginning of the DATA AGE. A few hours in to DAY ONE of this Exciting Era of living.

Wdc can see the future more than seagate. Seagate got into helium because crossplatform license. Always second runner with no innovation. Hamr heat up to 700c? Wow that can cause hugh fire and liability in long run. No thanks
