Hi Paul, thanks for bringing this up. At the moment we do not have a guide for Microsoft OneDrive but we will keep it in mind for the future!

Hi Nancy! We agree that the process can feel a bit tedious at first. Once you get through your initial download, we recommend scheduling periodic exports of your data (as mentioned above) so that the process becomes much easier for you in the future.

After I went through the process as described above, it took Google two days to send the 37 links to me. I then had to download to my laptop drive, that did not have enough space so I was unable to download after file 21. I then started the long process of moving the zip files to an external drive, then delete the download file, then continued the process of downloading the google links again until. This seems to me to be a ridiculously long tedious process, am I doing something wrong? I am at this 3 days now. How can I shorten this up? Is there a way to download from Gdrive right to the external HD?

Hi Chris! Thank you for sharing your setup with us. We enjoy hearing the different ways people set up a 3, 2, 1 backup for themselves. If you find any interesting ways to back up your Gmail account while you are investigating, feel free to come back and share!

And, if you try Backblaze, we would love to hear what you think. Thanks again!

Oh, I should have mentioned: “files” include documents, pictures and music.

I acknowledge the elephant in this backup scenario – no backup for my bulging Gmail account. Need to investigate.

Each month, I have scheduled batch file runs which also XCOPY all those folders/files to another external USB harddrive. This drive is then disconnected and stored in a box at a friend’s place, 23km away. I pick up last month’s harddrive and connect that up ready for the next scheduled backup. So swapping offsite backup harddrives every month. Not a chore at all as my mate and I catch up regularly. Been a bit of an issue the last month due to the 5km Covid travel restriction, but we found a (legal) way to achieve this.
I also continually back up all these files/folders to Google Drive.
Overkill? Perhaps.
Thanks for the informative article, Nicole. I might take a look at BackBlaze too, to see if it offers an improvement to my process.
